As an intuitive painter, my goal is to play and experiment until I get somewhere I like, and then create a product that is strong in color, line, and overall composition. When I begin a painting, I have no end goal in mind so I have no idea what the final product will look like. I find this to be the ultimate challenge.

I am inspired by the tactile sensations of pressing charcoal or crayon to paper, the look and feel of various textures of collage and paint layers, and the feeling of creating a composed piece. I feel serene, playful, surprised, frustrated, and finally, elated when my paintings start taking shape.

I enjoy the juxtaposition of neatness (in color or line) with more quietly messy areas. I want viewers to pay attention to the barely-there marks, to catch tiny glimpses at the layers underneath, and to wonder about the paintings underneath the surface.

I am a Resident Artist at Artists & Makers Studios in North Bethesda, Maryland, and a Visiting Artist at the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria. Virginia. Come by and visit!
